MLA Engineering provided structural engineering design services for an open 28’x40’ log-framed picnic shelter and two kiosks for Hickman Park location in Edmonds, WA. The structures provided an opportunity to design with exposed steel plate bolted connections. The expression of the bolts and steel plates, enhanced with black coating in contrast with the natural wood tones, was developed in conjunction with the architectural design. Durable cast-in-place concrete features include a sink, counter and BBQ area in the shelter, cantilever retaining walls, and seating areas throughout the site.
