Lewis Creek
Visitor Center
Location: Bellevue, WA
Client: City of Bellevue Parks Department
Structural Engineer: MLA Architect

The Lewis Creek Visitor Center is a gathering place for environmental education and recreation. More than 80% of this 55-acre park is preserved as an undeveloped natural area. MLA Engineering provided the structural design for this 5,000 SF environment focused visitor center building. With its mission to reflect good stewardship of the land and resources, the building construction used sustainable materials and a green roof design concept. Structural steel and glue-laminated framing and connections were incorporated. Steel columns were designed to laterally support the roof diaphragms by cantilevering from the CMU walls, accommodating multiple roof planes.
