The Encounter Africa Exhibit was a two-phase project which included multiple structures and features. Phase 1 included retaining walls, an elevated walkway over the elephant demo yard, shift barriers and a state-of-the-art elephant barn, supported on a concrete foundation. Phase 2 included a lion holding viewing exhibit space, elephant demonstration yard and shelter, Life Support building, shotcrete pools, animal care, and multiple public viewing areas. The structural design accommodates the relatively steep topography by integrating the new exhibits with the existing site retaining walls and features.
